The Journey Begins

So, my first official post on Jeffikus.com and I’ve got so much to say!

But, why am I doing this site? Well, after spending 5 long years in the academic world at the University of Cape Town, and another awesome 3 years in the development world working for a leading Web Application Development company, I have a lot of relevant knowledge to share and give back. So I’m going to be sharing a few of my thoughts & experiences on:

  • All things WordPress! This piece of code is fantastic and I love using it.
  • WordPress MU & how to do domain mapping properly (and with less stress)
  • WordPress & MU template tags series – there are some seriously awesome template tags in the codex…I can spend hours in there…
  • WordPress plugins – which ones work best & which ones I recommend
  • Flutter - I highly recommend this WordPress plugin and I will showcase its versatility
  • WordPress theme providers – I love high quality themes such as Woothemes, so check out my list of great theme providers
  • Why am I talking so much about WordPress? I’ve had a look at so many CMS/Blog engines out there, everything from Typo 3, Joomla, Drupal, Expression Engine, Get Simple, Mambo, etc etc, even had a look at CakePHP, I’ve even done proper research on which CMS engine is the “best” – but at the end of the day…it’s a huge debate I’m not prepared to start now, so…it’s YOUR decision which one to use, you will have to live with it.  I chose WordPress for a variery of reasons, so stick around and you will find why you can trust my decision.
  • I’ll give my thoughts and opinions on popular and up and coming web apps and sites, my recommended list, stuff I’ve published and conferences I’ve been to, sites I’ve worked on, and some fun stuff like how I blew up my father in law’s braai (BBQ for non South Africans) today – I have pictures to prove it :-)

See you back here soon! For the more curious, check here if you want to know more about who I am.

Hello! I came to your site via the WooThemes announcement. Will you be incorporating some of your WordPress MU work at WooThemes? I know right now they focus mostly on WP single user. There is a thriving WPMU / BuddyPress community out there and I’d love to see Woo do more with WPMU – as I’m a huge fan of their themes. I also blog over at: http://wpmu.org/tips-and-tools-for-growing-a-strong-wordpress-mu-community/ and I am always on the lookout for developers who are innovating in the WPMU community. I’m subscribing to your blog – can’t wait for the Template Tag series! :)

Hi Sarah! thanks, yeah I’ve been working quite a bit on wpmu lately and find it’s actually pretty awesome and flexible – so I will post some of my experiences here. I’ve been trying to get my domain mapping experience onto the site, but hit a small technical limitation which I will solve soon. I can’t say what I will be doing at Woothemes (yet) but I will always have a keen interest in wpmu :-) will be sure to follow your blog for some extra tips!
